Awards

Just found out that 2 of my images have been awarded a Merit by the BIPP (British Institute of Professional Photographers) and thought I’d share my latest success with you all.

The 2 award-winning images are:

I captured this image while photographing a recent Muslim wedding that was full of colour and amazing imagery. I caught this one just before the ceremony in the morning when the bride was in a contemplative mood about the day ahead.

My other image is:

This little girl was so cute and shy during the session I named the image “Shy”

I’ll be picking up my awards on Tuesday 27th March 2007 at the awards evening to be held in Sutton Coldfield.

I feel privileged to have the top professional photographers in the industry view my work as amongst the best and to award my work their seal of approval.

So I’m happy to be able to add these latest awards to my other awards, which in recent years include: The Photographer of the Year and Wedding Photographer of the Year.

Thanks to all involved and here’s looking forward to a great 2007!

20 Years Photographing Weddings

While going through my loft, I found the negatives from the very first wedding I photographed way back in 1987. It was great to reminisce about the good old days and the cameras that I used back then and also how technology has moved on.

My friends asked me to photograph their wedding because they knew I was into photography but at the time I “only” had a 35mm SLR. (Olympus OM10) I say “only”, because in those days you weren’t a wedding photographer unless you used Medium Format. I couldn’t afford anything too expensive so I rushed out and bought a Yashica Mat 124 G which proved to be a great camera and served me well for many weddings.

(I went misty eyed when I found this picture!!)

A few years later I moved onto a Mamiya 645 Super

then a Bronica ETRSi.

Oh for the good old days, when cameras were cameras! – All my film cameras (expect for my trusty Nikon FM2) have since been sold and replaced by digital equipment.

Do I miss my film cameras? “Yes!” Would I go back to using them? “No!” (There’s a contradiction, if I ever heard one!!) Why not? Next time you see me ask me the question and I’ll tell you why.

A quick scan from one of those early negatives (please excuse the poor scan quality):
Who would have believed that 20 years later I’m still photographing weddings and enjoying it more than when I first started?

Looking forward to a great 2007 and beyond.

“My Style” of Photography

I’m often discussing “my style” of photography with brides and grooms who are looking for something different. As a photographer I truly believe that a picture speaks a thousands words, so rather than try to explain how I try in make the day as fun and relaxed as possible, I often point to this picture and say: This sums up “my style” If that’s what you want, then that’s what I can offer you.
