That’s a question I’m often asked by one’s looking to book me as their photographer and I fully understand why it is of concern when you consider that I work for myself and not for a company that has a multitude of other photographers to call on for backup cover.
So what would happen if I was ill on a wedding day? First of all it would have to be a very severe illness to prevent me from attending a wedding, the type of illness that would prevent the bride and groom from attending their own wedding. But if the worst did happen and for some extreme reason I was unable to photograph a wedding then you’ll be glad to know I too have an effective backup plan to make sure the day is not ruined. For several years now I have been actively networking with scores of photographers in and around my local area, getting to know them personally and their style of photography. This has allowed me to have a list of photographers who I know, trust and on whom I can call on at a moments notice to cover a wedding should the worst ever happen to me.
An example of this was last night when I met up with several local photographers at Your Big Day’s Studio. A big thank you to Anthony and Darren for allowing us to use their studio for the meeting. It was good to meet up with a few familiar and some new faces to discuss how we can help each other with their businesses.
The end result for my customers is a level of assurance that their day won’t be ruined should I ever be unable to photograph their wedding.
This subject also got me thinking about other “What if…?” scenarios that could be a cause of concern. Such as: “Because most wedding photographers shoot digitally, what if the memory card got corrupted in the camera and all the images were lost?”
